Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 medium white onion, chopped
  • 3 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 3/4 cup chopped pimientos
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced or put through a garlic press
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 or 2 jalapenos, stemmed and seeded, finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup raisins
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano
  • 3/4 cup slivered almonds, toasted

Instructions

  1. In a medium skillet, sauté the meat with the onions until onion is clear. Pour off excess grease, if necessary. Add enough water to the skillet to barely cover the meat. Cover and simmer 20 minutes.
  2. Add all remaining ingredients except almonds. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Stir in toasted almonds before serving.
