Sauce Boat Production: 1986 – Present
“Gravy boats and does eat oats,
and little lambs eat ivy.
A kid will eat gravy too,
Wouldn’t you?“
– Fiesta Melodies of 1936
Sauce for the Goose
The 12 1/2 ” sauce boat (gravy boat) has been a constantly produced piece in the Fiesta line going all the way back to the first year of production, 1937.. The vintage sauce boats, which almost everyone refers to as gravy boats, continued until 1973. When Fiesta returned in 1986, the sauce boat was included in the original set of pieces available with little change.
It’s been produced in every color, both vintage and Post86 (although there was no official production of it in sapphire blue.) This was also one of the few pieces that made its way into the Amberstone, Casualstone and Ironstone lines without alteration.
Properly identifying the gray and turquoise sauceboats can be confusing. Look for the raised “H” on newer pieces that might be confusing to original colors, like Pearl Gray vs. vintage gray.
The Post86 Sauce Boat is item number 486. (It’s original item number during the vintage run was 719. It holds 18-1/2 ounces.
HLC has produced Fiesta Gravy Boats in all of the post-86 colors, except Sapphire.
