Description

This is one of Dave Lieberman’s recipes from the excellent Dave’s Dinners. This is an apple crumble recipe you can get excited about.


Ingredients

For Filling

  • 5 large Golden Delicious apples (about 3 pounds)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For Crumble

    • About 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1-1/4 cups rolled oats
    • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • Pinch of salt
    • 1 stick cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • Vanilla ice cream, as an accompaniment

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into 1/4-inch slices. Transfer the apples to a large mixing bowl and toss with the granulated sugar, lemon juice, brandy, and cinnamon.
  3. Pour into a lightly greased 13×9-inch baking dish.
  4. In another large bowl, make a coarse crumb mixture out of the crumble ingredients, using your fingers. Top the apples with this mixture and bake about 45 minutes.
  5. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
