Beer-Simmered Sausages Recipe

Serve up sausages for dinner, Texas-German-style! These are delicious any time of the year, not just in “Oktober“.

Serve sausages with sauerkraut, macaroni and cheese and pickles.

Description

Texas has a long tradition of cooking German food. 


Ingredients

  • 4 sausage links, pork or beef
  • 1 12 oz. bottle of dark beer
  • 1/2 yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 bay leaf

Instructions

  1. Place sausages, sliced onion and beer in a large saucepan.
  2. Cover and place over low heat.
  3. Simmer slowly for about 25 minutes or until sausages are plumped up.
  4. Once cooked, remove from the pot and place in a large skillet to crisp, approximately two minutes each side.
  5. Optional: For additional flavor, add one teaspoon of cumin to the beer mixture.

Notes

Serve with sauerkraut, macaroni and cheese and pickles.
