The Grapefruit Mexican Martini is a fun new way to use Texas grapefruit when in season (November through May). We found this drink, an intriguing variation on the tequila-based Mexican Martini, on the late Gourmet Veggie Mama blog. However, after many taste tests, we chose to make our version without agave nectar, which gives this cocktail a sharper tequila edge.
We’re all Texans here. Therefore we suggest Paula’s Texas Orange as the orange liqueur. Bottom’s up!

Grapefruit Mexican Martini
- Total Time: 4 Min
- Yield: 1 1x
- Category: Beverages
- Cuisine: Tex-Mex
Ingredients
- 6 ounces tequila
- 3 ounces Grand Marnier (or Paula’s Texas Orange)
- 3-4 ounces grapefruit juice
- 1 ounce lime juice
Instructions
- Combine the ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well.
- Strain into a salt-rimmed cocktail glass.
If you notice, the amounts for the Grapefruit Mexican Martini fills a standard-size cocktail shaker. When served Mexican Martinis in a typical Austin restaurant, the waiter will pour your cocktail into your martini glass and leave the shaker at your table. There should be enough martini left for another glass.
